This collection of Earth and Fire goodies is a true reflection of a band travelling along the road of music, changing, or rather making up. its mind along the way. Thrown together, by one of those rare good-natured whims of fate, during those days of magic, when the music from America's West coast was still wild and exciting, the members of the group were smart enough not to rush into a recording studio before they had had at least the time to get to know each other and blend their musical souls into one. Out on the road in its early days the band had to overcome the material and artistic hang-ups that probably every rock band has had to face. Only Earth and Fire's problems were a bit more complicated. For instance, how could they explain that Jerney's pretty face was just
a coincidence, that she was there for the music and nothing but the music, like "the rest" of the guys in the band. And how hard it is playing for dances, expecting that people who show up are there for the music,when some of them demonstrate different and less spiritual interests. Well, the only way for them was to get more into their music, and to let their songs and lyrics tell about the many things going on inside their heads, and to hope that they could turn on the "good" people, or turn people into "good" people. This they certainly did with their last album "Song of the Marching Children," which really surprised the nation. To them it was only one more step in the direction they had chosen. Now just think about that.

В первые дни своего существования группе пришлось преодолеть материальные и художественные трудности, с которыми, вероятно, сталкивалась каждая рок-группа. Только проблемы Earth and Fire были немного сложнее. Например, как они могли объяснить, что хорошенькое личико Джерни было просто
совпадение, что она была там для музыки и ничего, кроме музыки, как и "остальные" ребята в группе. И как трудно играть для танцев, ожидая,что люди, которые появляются, будут там для музыки, когда некоторые из них демонстрируют другие и менее духовные интересы. Что ж, единственный способ для них-это больше погружаться в свою музыку, позволять своим песням и текстам рассказывать о многих вещах, происходящих в их головах, и надеяться, что они смогут включить "хороших" людей или превратить их в "хороших" людей. Это они, конечно, сделали со своим последним альбомом "песня марширующих детей", который действительно удивил нацию. Для них это был всего лишь еще один шаг в избранном направлении. Очень интересная группа, в первую очередь тем, что обычно название
это никто не знает, а когда поставишь песни, то оказывается, что их
знают и любят. Проверено на нескольких друзьях соответствующего возраста
(которые могли слышать Earth & Fire в период их популярности). А друзьям
помоложе попросту нравится эта музыка.
А сборник этот (со смешным для русского человека названием "суперстаршина"),
на мой взгляд, очень удачный, содержит лучшие песни Eart & Fire, издаваемые
на синглах 1969-1972 гг.
